چکیده

For any critical information services, there are two fundamental challenges: the protection of users’ privacy and the provision of highly available services. Several schemes for private information retrieval (PIR) were proposed to protect users’ privacy when sensitive information stored in (remote) database servers is accessed. However, all the existing PIR schemes are based on a simple honest-but-curious model, and assume that any attack to the database servers does not change the information and computational results. We present in this paper a novel fault-tolerant scheme (called FT-PIR) both for protecting users’ privacy and ensuring service availability even in the presence of malicious server faults. This scheme does not rely on any unproven cryptographic assumptions and on the availability of tamper-proof hardware. A probabilistic result verification algorithm is introduced into this scheme to detect any corrupted information and incorrect results. We have implemented both the FT-PIR scheme and a typical PIR scheme on a distributed multidatabase system. By conducting a number of experiments in the fault-free case and various fault scenarios, we show that the FT-PIR scheme can preserve users’ privacy effectively and at the same time tolerate server faults including malicious attacks. For example, when three replicated servers were used, only a 6% performance overhead was introduced by FT-PIR in comparison with PIR in the fault-free case. In several fault scenarios, the FT-PIR scheme performs generally better than the PIR − 35.82% less processing time was needed for FT-PIR to tolerate a server fault and to retrieve correct results.

Design of an Active Approach for Detection, Estimation and Short-Circuit Stator Fault Tolerant Control in Induction Motors

Three phase induction motors have many applications in industries. Consequently, detecting and estimating the fault and compensate it in a way that the faulty induction motor satisfies the predefined goals are important issues. One of the most common faults in induction motors is the short circuit of the stator winding. In this paper, an active fault-tolerant control system is designed and pres...

An approach to fault detection and correction in design of systems using of Turbo ‎codes‎

We present an approach to design of fault tolerant computing systems. In this paper, a technique is employed that enable the combination of several codes, in order to obtain flexibility in the design of error correcting codes. Code combining techniques are very effective, which one of these codes are turbo codes. The Algorithm-based fault tolerance techniques that to detect errors rely on the c...

Stability Assessment Metamorphic Approach (SAMA) for Effective Scheduling based on Fault Tolerance in Computational Grid

Grid Computing allows coordinated and controlled resource sharing and problem solving in multi-institutional, dynamic virtual organizations. Moreover, fault tolerance and task scheduling is an important issue for large scale computational grid because of its unreliable nature of grid resources. Commonly exploited techniques to realize fault tolerance is periodic Checkpointing that periodically ...

Classical leakage resilience from fault-tolerant quantum computation

Physical implementations of cryptographic algorithms leak information, which makes them vulnerable to so-called side-channel attacks. The problem of secure computation in the presence of leakage is generally known as leakage resilience. In this work, we establish a connection between leakage resilience and fault-tolerant quantum computation. We first prove that for a general leakage model, ther...

Fault-Tolerant Fulltext Information Retrieval in Digital Multilingual Encyclopedias with Weighted Pattern Morphing

This paper introduces a new approach to add fault-tolerance to a fulltext retrieval system. The weighted pattern morphing technique circumvents some of the disadvantages of the widely used edit distance measure and can serve as a front end to almost any fast non fault-tolerant search engine. The technique enables approximate searches by carefully generating a set of modified patterns (morphs) f...
